The discussion regarding eugenics usually ends where most people expect it to: that it should not be done for moral reasons. While that is true, and should be upheld if we are to survive as a species, there are practical ‘Should Not’s that are overlooked.

Ethical debate requires both an understanding of the factual details, and the constant expansion of sympathies. It cannot be reduced to the exchanging of dogmas from rival traditions, or to the simple acceptance of irreconcilable disagreement.

This is perhaps why discussion is vital. Sweeping an important issue under the rug may be convenient, but it makes the for bumpy ground.
